Legal Services – Council on Immigrant Relations (CIR)

CIR provides direct immigration legal representation through a DOJ-accredited representative. Our legal team advocates for immigrants in both affirmative and defensive proceedings, including appearances before immigration courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals.

Core areas of legal representation include:

Removal Defense – Representation in bond hearings, master and merits hearings, and motions to reopen or terminate.

Asylum & Humanitarian Relief – Preparation and filing of asylum applications (affirmative and defensive), along with support for applicants pursuing relief under VAWA, U visas, T visas, and SIJS.

Family-Based Immigration – Legal representation for clients petitioning through family members, including adjustment of status and consular processing.

Naturalization & Citizenship – Assistance with N-400 applications and representation in naturalization interviews and related proceedings.

DACA & TPS – Application support and representation for clients seeking or renewing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Work Authorization – Filing and follow-up for employment authorization documents related to pending relief applications.

CIR also conducts legal screenings, background checks, and document preparation to ensure all filings meet current USCIS and EOIR requirements. We work closely with volunteer attorneys and community partners to expand access to quality, low-cost legal defense for immigrants in vulnerable situations.
